Following reports that Justice John Ajet Nassam was nowhere to be found in order to be served with a notice to appear before the Investigative Committee probing bribery and corruption charges against him, the National Security is on a ‘manhunt’ for him.
Nassam is one of the seven suspended High Court judges caught on tape in Anas Aremeyaw Anas’s latest exposé, allegedly taking bribes to influence cases before them. Nassam allegedly collected Ghc16,000 bribe to free criminal suspects.
According to Starrfmonline.com sources, all the security outfits within Ghana have been alerted to be on the lookout for the “runaway judge.” If he fails to turn up at the sitting by Thursday after the newspaper notification, National security will alert systems within and beyond the borders of Ghana.
The committee has been forced to issue a hearing notice in the state-owned Daily Graphic titled: In the investigative committee (Article 146), In the matter of a petition by Anas Aremeyaw Anas for the removal from office of Justice John Ajet Nassam.
Justice John Ajet Nassam’s failure to appear before a judicial inquiry may amount to waving his right to be heard. According to Samson Lardy Anyenni,a private legal practitioner, Justice Ajet Nassam may have concluded that he has absolutely no defence after investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas filmed him and 33 other judges taking bribes.
The Chief Justice’s Investigative Committee has published in the Daily Graphic a public notice asking him to appear before the committee or the committee will proceed without him. Commenting on the development, Samson Anyenini told Joy News that he suspects the judge may be avoiding the committee because he has nothing to say.
Samson argued that irrespective of the absence of any implicated judge, the process will go on and the final decision will be deemed binding on the suspects. Unconfirmed reports say that the implicated judge tried to tender in his resignation as a High Court after the exposé, but the Chief Justice (C.J) Georgina Theodora Woode rejected his resignation.
