The Parliament of Ghana has donated GH¢100,000 to support the medical treatment of victims of the El-Wak stadium stampede.
In a Facebook post, the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, said the gesture represents a token of Parliament’s solidarity with the victims and a demonstration of the House’s commitment to the welfare of citizens affected by the tragedy.
The donation was made during a parliamentary delegation’s visit to the 37 Military Hospital, where the injured victims are receiving medical care.
The tragic incident was reportedly triggered by a stampede, following an unexpected surge of applicants who breached security protocols and rushed the gate at 6:20 a.m., ahead of the scheduled recruitment screening into the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).
The nationwide exercise, which was being conducted simultaneously across various centres, has since been postponed as investigations continue.
