The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has elected a new crop of regional executives as part of its internal reorganisation ahead of Ghana’s 2028 general elections.

According to GhanaSky.com analyst, the NPP Regional Executive Elections 2026 were held across the country on Saturday, August 15, with the Western North Region scheduled to complete its election on Sunday, August 16, 2026. The elections covered key positions including Regional Chairman, First and Second Vice Chairpersons, Secretary, Organiser, Treasurer, Women’s Organiser, Youth Organiser, Communications Officer and Nasara Organiser.

Among the biggest highlights were the decisive victories of Dr Bernard Okoe-Boye in Greater Accra, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah (COKA) in Ashanti, Jeff Konadu Addo in Eastern, and the re-election of Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, in the Bono Region.

The elections are particularly important for the NPP as the party seeks to rebuild its grassroots structures following its performance in the 2024 general elections and prepare for the 2028 presidential and parliamentary elections.

The above list is based on provisional results reported after the August 15 elections. The Western North Region was scheduled to vote separately on August 16.

Okoe Boye Wins NPP Greater Accra Regional Chairmanship

One of the most closely watched contests was the NPP Greater Accra Regional Chairman election, which was won by former Health Minister and former Ledzokuku MP Dr Bernard Okoe-Boye.

Okoe-Boye defeated Alfred Boye in a decisive contest.

Greater Accra Chairmanship Results

  • Dr Bernard Okoe-Boye – 490 votes
  • Alfred Boye – 172 votes
  • Winning margin – 318 votes

Citi Newsroom and other reports confirmed the 490-to-172 result, giving Okoe-Boye a 318-vote victory.

The victory gives Okoe-Boye the responsibility of leading the NPP’s regional structures in Greater Accra at a particularly important time. The region remains one of the country’s most politically competitive areas, and the new regional leadership will be expected to strengthen grassroots mobilisation and help the party recover lost parliamentary ground ahead of 2028.

Other Greater Accra winners

Other notable winners included:

  • First Vice Chairman: Joana Frances Ada – 405 votes
  • Regional Organiser: Moses Abor – 465 votes
  • Regional Secretary: Daniel Parker – 350 votes
  • Deputy Secretary: Gideon Ampim Sakyi – 209 votes
  • Communications: Solomon Asante – 265 votes
  • Treasurer: Michael Danquah – 265 votes

The reported figures for some positions varied slightly between early provisional reports and later reports, so the final certified figures should be treated as authoritative where available.

Abronye DC Retains Bono NPP Regional Chairmanship

Another major headline from the 2026 NPP regional elections was the re-election of Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, as the Bono Regional Chairman.

Abronye secured 201 votes in a five-candidate chairmanship contest.

His closest challenger, Yaw Afful, obtained 44 votes, while Joseph Mensah polled 31. Afari Gyan and Kwabena Oppong recorded no votes in the reported results.

Bono Regional Chairmanship Results

  • Kwame Baffoe (Abronye DC) – 201
  • Yaw Afful – 44
  • Joseph Mensah – 31
  • Afari Gyan – 0
  • Kwabena Oppong – 0

Abronye’s victory means he will continue to lead the NPP’s regional organisation in Bono as the party works toward rebuilding its parliamentary fortunes in 2028.

Important clarification: Some early online reports incorrectly labelled Abronye’s victory as a Bono East result. The independently reported election result identifies Abronye DC as the Bono Regional Chairman, while Ibrahim Bukari Baba was elected chairman in Bono East.

COKA Wins NPP Ashanti Regional Chairmanship

The Ashanti Region produced another major change in the NPP’s regional leadership.

Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, popularly known as COKA, defeated former Bantama MP and former Environmental Protection Agency chief executive Dr Henry Kwabena Kokofu.

COKA polled 658 votes, while Kokofu secured 269 votes.

COKA’s victory is significant because Ashanti has historically been one of the NPP’s strongest political bases. The new regional chairman will therefore face the task of consolidating the party’s traditional support while improving organisation and mobilisation ahead of 2028.

Jeff Konadu Addo Wins Eastern Region

In the Eastern Region, Jeff Konadu Addo was elected Regional Chairman.

He secured 405 votes, defeating Albert Kwadwo Boa-Agyemang, who obtained 292 votes.

Other reported Eastern Regional winners include:

  • First Vice Chairman: Twum Barimah Koranteng
  • Regional Secretary: Tony Osei Adjei
  • Regional Organiser: Jerry Osei Poku

The new Eastern Regional executives are expected to lead the party’s reorganisation and grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2028 elections.

Joseph Kobinah Esibu Wins Central Region

The Central Region also has a new chairman.

Joseph Kobinah Esibu secured 278 votes to defeat Percy Dennis, who obtained 161 votes.

The Central Regional election also produced new executives across the party’s organisational structure, with delegates voting for positions including First Vice Chairman, Second Vice Chairman, Secretary, Organiser, Treasurer, Youth Organiser, Women’s Organiser and Nasara Organiser.

Robert Sarfo-Mensah Wins Ahafo Region

Robert Sarfo-Mensah, popularly known as Booba, emerged as the new NPP Ahafo Regional Chairman.

He polled 65 votes, defeating Justice Appiah Antwi, who obtained 56 votes, and Kwabena Owusu Sekyere, who received 35 votes.

The result marks a change in the leadership of the NPP’s Ahafo Regional structure and comes as the party seeks to strengthen its presence in the region before the next general election.

Adam Samba Retains Northern Regional Chairmanship

In the Northern Region, incumbent chairman Mohammed Baatima Adam, popularly known as Adam Samba, retained his position.

Adam Samba polled 215 votes to defeat Inusah Amadu, who secured 122 votes.

Following his re-election, Adam Samba indicated that expanding the NPP’s parliamentary representation in the Northern Region would be among his priorities.

North East: Fusheini Nurudeen Retains Chairmanship

In the North East Region, Fusheini Nurudeen retained the regional chairmanship.

He polled 92 votes against Sulley Sambian’s 64 votes, with 156 valid votes cast in the chairmanship contest.

The result gives the incumbent another mandate as the NPP prepares for the next electoral cycle.

Savannah Region: Iddrisu Sulemana Wins by Four Votes

The Savannah Regional chairmanship race was one of the closest contests of the 2026 NPP regional elections.

Alhaji Iddrisu Sulemana defeated former Ghana Water Limited Managing Director Dr Clifford Abdallah Braimah by just four votes.

Savannah Results

  • Iddrisu Sulemana – 92
  • Clifford Abdallah Braimah – 88

The narrow margin underlined the competitiveness of the contest. Other reported winners included Aboagye Kwame as First Vice Chairman and Seidu Ayuba as Regional Secretary.

Upper East Region

Elvis Awonekai Figo emerged as the Upper East Regional Chairman.

The reported chairmanship figures were:

  • Elvis Figo Awonekai – 177
  • Dr Moses Kwabena Atinga – 123
  • Filson Kweku Awankuah – 18
  • Patrick Ayaaba – 13
  • Osman Konkonba – 1

The Upper East election also produced new executives for the vice-chairmanship, secretarial, organising, communications, women’s and Nasara positions.

Upper West Region: Abdul-Aziz Abdu-Rahaman Wins

Abdul-Aziz Abdu-Rahaman was elected Upper West Regional Chairman after defeating Kantong Alaska.

He secured 173 votes, while Alaska obtained 86 votes.

The election was temporarily disrupted by delegates from the Nandom Constituency, but the process subsequently continued and the chairman-elect was declared.

Volta Region: Makafui Woanyah Retains Position

Makafui Kofi Woanyah retained the NPP Volta Regional Chairmanship.

Provisional results showed Woanyah securing 169 votes, compared with 148 votes for his challenger, Joseph Wallace Homenya.

That represented a 21-vote winning margin.

Western Region: Ignatius Kwesi Afrifa Wins

The Western Region elected Ignatius Kwesi Afrifa as its new NPP Regional Chairman.

Afrifa polled 265 votes, defeating Abdul Ganiyu Mohammed, who obtained 102 votes.

Other winners included:

  • First Vice Chairman: Ignatius Aaaah Mensah – 205 votes
  • Second Vice Chairman: Francis Abeku Yankah – 193 votes

  • Women’s Organiser: Augustina Nketiah – 193 votes
  • Treasurer: Nana Adwoa Appiah – 262 votes
  • Nasara Organiser: Adam Harun Ahmed – 190 votes.

Oti Region: Dr Frank Yirenkyi Elected

Dr Frank Yirenkyi was elected the new NPP Oti Regional Chairman.

Reports confirm his victory in the regional executive elections, with Asaase Radio reporting that he secured 83 votes.

His election adds another new face to the NPP’s regional leadership structure as the party works to reorganise its grassroots base ahead of 2028.

Bono East Region: Ibrahim Bukari Baba Wins

The Bono East Region elected Ibrahim Bukari Baba as Regional Chairman.

He defeated Thomas Adu Appiah, with the reported figures showing:

  • Ibrahim Bukari Baba – 180
  • Thomas Adu Appiah – 73
  • Rejected – 1

This result is particularly notable because of confusion in some early reports that attributed Abronye DC’s victory to Bono East. Abronye’s reported 201-vote victory was in the Bono Region, while Ibrahim Bukari Baba emerged in Bono East.

Western North Region Election: Still Pending

The Western North Region is the outstanding region in the current list.

The NPP scheduled the Western North Regional Executive Election for Sunday, August 16, 2026, after the other regions voted on August 15.

The contest has attracted attention following the withdrawal of incumbent Regional Chairman Benjamin Armah, who endorsed McDaniels Nyame and called on party members to prioritise unity and the broader interests of the NPP.

The Western North result will therefore complete the regional chairman list for the 2026 NPP reorganisation.

What the 2026 NPP Regional Elections Mean for 2028

The regional elections are more than an internal party exercise. They are part of the NPP’s attempt to rebuild its organisational structures after the 2024 general election and position itself for the 2028 elections.

Regional chairmen are expected to coordinate grassroots mobilisation, strengthen constituency structures, resolve internal disagreements and support the party’s parliamentary and presidential campaigns.

The results also show a mixture of continuity and change.

Several incumbents retained their positions, including:

  • Abronye DC in Bono
  • Adam Samba in Northern
  • Fusheini Nurudeen in North East
  • Makafui Woanyah in Volta

At the same time, new chairmen emerged in several strategically important regions, including:

  • Okoe-Boye in Greater Accra

  • Jeff Konadu Addo in Eastern
  • Joseph Kobinah Esibu in Central
  • Ignatius Kwesi Afrifa in Western
  • Robert Sarfo-Mensah in Ahafo
  • Iddrisu Sulemana in Savannah

The leadership changes could influence how the NPP organises its grassroots operations and selects and supports parliamentary candidates ahead of 2028.
